  Youth Programs

Gilgamesh Theatre Group offers a variety of Theatre in Education programs, ranging from in-school residency and after-school programs to presentations of live performances. All workshop programs are customized to fit the needs of the individual organizations/groups that we serve.

The Theatre in Education (TIE) Project is dedicated to using drama and theatre arts with students to develop creativity and self-esteem and to enhance speech and movement skills. Gilgamesh artists, working in teams of two, teach weekly workshops. The basic model for the program is a 12 session workshop in which students and their teachers work and learn side by side in the program. Theatre games and improvisation introduce students to drama without pressure to perform as our Teaching Artists guide students as they create, express and imagine. Dance, mime, clowning and singing may be incorporated as well. The workshops culminate in performances that give students a chance to share both their talents and themselves with family and friends. Maximum group size is 18.

  Children with Special Needs

Gilgamesh Teaching Artists have particular expertise in working with children with special needs, as well as their non-disabled peers, and have designed programs specifically tailored to the various levels and needs of students with disabilities ranging from speech and language delays to Down Syndrome and traumatic brain injury. When working with children with special needs a student/teacher ratio of 4 to 1 is required. (Additional Teaching Artists are added to the team to maintain this ratio.)

  Our Theatre in Education workshops:

  • Encourage personal expression.
  • Strengthen speech, movement and listening skills.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration through strong emphasis on group work.
  • Spark problem-solving skills.
  • Give students a safe space to take risks and grow.
  • Demonstrate alternatives to traditional teaching and learning methods.
  • Give children the chance to shine in front of their friends and family.
